About the Didiereaceae Family

The family Didiereaceae is endemic to the island of Madagascar. This means that it is only native to that area and nowhere else. Specifically it grows primarily along the coasts of the southern and southwestern parts of the island. There are four genera included in this family and 11 species - one of which may be a hybrid. For the most part, the species are upright trees with woody stems covered in rows of spines -usually single spines, but in some species in clusters.
